Easter - Totally Pagan

I thought this was an important follow-up from the comments on my last post.

It's copywrited so I won't quote it here - but it gives some interesting insite about Easter... and the sunrise service!

Hi Kim,

I've never done a huge study on Easter so I've never really made up my mind on it. However, I've always felt uncomfortable in church on the Sabbath before Easter. In my experience, there has always been a lot of emphasis placed on Christ's death and very little mentioned about the resurrection (kind of like the Passion of the Christ movie). While I do find it important to reflect on Christ's death (in communion, for example), without the resurrection, Jesus' death would have been meaningless. You can't conquer death if there is no life afterwards.

My hubby and I don't really celebrate any of the big holidays. I have to admit, though, we boycott mostly because of the commercialization of ALL the holidays. :) The focus is usually on people when our focus should be on God.

Our pastor just explained all the Pagan rituals behind Easter last Sunday. Our church does not do Good Friday services, sunrise services, or anything like that. As a matter of fact, they call it Resurrection Sunday instead of Easter. So I can understand where you are coming from. :)
