As some of you know, I've recently been threatened with c-section by my Nurse Midwife practice. I think it's all blown over - but it made me acutely aware of what a real threat this is to the way of life and birth in America.
The "rationale" for this threat was that I *might* have a big baby. Oh really?? What gave it away? The fact that Sage was 10 lbs. 2 oz.? Well, forget the fact that he was born vaginally, at home, without pain medication... they still thought it should be an "option" for me to have a c-section.
Okay - rant over. Here are some more stupid reasons they try to tell women to have Cesareans - or Caesareans, if you're in the UK!
Caesarean Myths Exploded
CAESAREAN MYTH NO. 1
A diagnosis of cephalopelvic disproportion (CPD) is a recurring condition always requiring elective repeat caesarean section
CAESAREAN MYTH NO. 2
Twice a caesarean, always a caesarean
CAESAREAN MYTH NO. 3
A previous caesarean section is a contraindication to a home delivery
CAESAREAN MYTH NO. 4
A classical or other non-LSCS scar is a contraindication for VBAC

There's just as many here in the USA, as well. I had a vbac after 2 c/s. My fourth came along and they wouldn't even hear of it... even with a succesful vbac. I ended up having a homebirth with no problems again... The medical system really puts the pressure on moms... our local hospital has one of the highest c/s rates in the country... can you see why I didn't go there? Actually, they wouldn't let me... they refused to care for me if I refused a c/s. When I told my doctor I got a midwife... he said who is she... he wanted to report her as it wasn't lawful in our state for a midwife to attend a mother who had had a c/s previously. I went out of state where it was legal. Sad, so sad for mothers these days...
Warmly,
